Alkimos Primary School (PS) is seeking a motivated and proactive Cleaner in Charge to join their friendly cleaning team.
As the Cleaner In Charge, you will inspire and lead a team of cleaning staff to ensure the school environment is maintained in accordance with Department of Education policies and procedures. The successful applicant will have a sound knowledge of cleaning equipment and safe cleaning procedures, methods and practices. It is desirable for applicants to have experience in supervising staff, as the successful applicant will work alongside school staff and manage staff performance in consultation with the Manager Corporate Services.
In addition to the above, the Cleaner is Charge will liaise with the Manager Corporate Services on all cleaning matters, and record and respond to issues and concerns detailed in the communication book. They will maintain the cleaner’s time book, arrange relief staff, be responsible for monitoring and ordering stock supplies, open and lock the school, including setting the security alarm system
Alkimos PS opened in 2016 and currently has an enrolment of 685 students, and this continues to grow gradually. Our approaches to teaching and learning are that our staff members understand that the quality of relationships with students is the key. Teachers are able to adeptly engage families and the Alkimos school community, as crucial to our school's ongoing success is the extent to which this sense of belonging and connectedness can be created. Our staff strive to create a highly collaborative learning environment.
Our school features 5 teaching blocks, an automated library, a fully enclosed and carpeted assembly area, nature playground areas, traditional playground and a 'loose parts hub'. All classrooms are fully air-conditioned. In 2021, we are hoping to install air-conditioning in our covered assembly area, known as the Agora.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s online training in manual tasks and hazardous substances within three months of commencement;
- complete Fundamentals of Cleaning training as soon as practicable;
- complete any other training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process
