The BHP Pilbara Education Partnership is seeking a dynamic, highly organised individual with well-developed interpersonal skills to coordinate the Early Years aspect of the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership (the Partnership) 2021 to 2023.
The Early Years Strategy Coordinator will liaise with the BHP Pilbara Education Partnership Coordinator and lead the strategic and operational response to Early Years aspect of the Partnership. This position will also have responsibility for direct line management of Family Liaison Officers in both Hedland and Newman.
The Early Years aspect focuses on a strengthened community-based approach to ensuring all students start school well prepared; implementing a well-coordinated approach to service delivery, intervention to address areas of concern for children aged 0 to 3 years and 4 to 8 years and support every child to be school ready by building capacity with families.
The position requires a capacity to work strategically and efficiently, including highly effective organisational skills. The position focuses on developing proactive long-term capacity building strategies to:
- coordinate the strategy ensuring alignment with Departmental policy
- lead strategic planning key initiatives
- lead, manage and coordinate a team of professionals to deliver the Early Years strategy
- monitor, evaluate and report on the strategy to key stakeholders
- develop and maintain strategic partnerships and networks with health services providers, government agencies and community based organisations
- collaborate with government and non-government organisations to promote and share models of best practice
- undertake data collection an analysis of child service and intervention to ensure there are reduced gaps in delivery and support
- manage an allocated budget in accordance with project brief and financial compliance requirements
The role will be based in South Hedland and there is a requirement of the Coordinator to travel both locally and within the Pilbara region. Government Regional Officer Housing will be made available to the successful applicant.
This position commences Term 2, 2021 until December 2023, with the possibility of extension. There will be an expectation that the successful applicant will participate in an induction, including Cultural Awareness, Department Code of Conduct, Accountability and Ethics, Record Keeping and Operational Procedures.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- substantial knowledge and understanding of Early Years Development, Collective Impact Model and Allied Health Services and Programs.
- highly developed oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to undertake high-level negotiations, consultations and build high-level relationships and cross-sectoral networks.
- highly developed written communication skills, including experience in the preparation of reports, briefings, policies and procedures.
- well-developed project management skills, including the ability to coordinate and deliver strategic outcomes.
- highly developed research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify issues and trends and provides innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- hold or obtain a valid Western Australian Driver’s Licence
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
