Denmark Senior High School (DSHS) is seeking to maintain and grow its reputation for excellence through high quality programs that support student achievement. This requires a dedicated and hard-working staff of professionals who are committed to improving student outcomes.
DSHS is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and innovative Student Support Officer to join their dedicated Student Wellbeing Team. The Student Support Officer is responsible for implementing school responses for students at education risk. This will include responsive and proactive implementation of support programs across the school community.

Ideally, you will hold high expectations of our students and yourself; be dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for all students and treat all individuals with care. In addition, applicants are able to build student, parent and community relationships based on trust, mutual respect and the acceptance of responsibility will be highly regarded. Experience working with internal and external stakeholders under tight resource and time constraints will be advantageous.

DSHS is located in the Shire of Denmark within the Great Southern region of Western Australia and near the banks of the Denmark River. Built on its current site in 2000, the school is set on 19 hectares of land one kilometre east of the town centre. The school provides a comprehensive Year 7 to Year 12 secondary school education.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing prioritises within timelines.
- Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
