The Goldfields Education Region is seeking enthusiastic and hardworking individuals for an exciting opportunity as Principal at one of three schools across the Esperance network.
As Principal, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a school culture that promotes positive relationships between students, between students and staff, as well as engaging parents and the wider community. Further, you will be responsible for being innovative and creative in the establishment of systems and structures to foster academic development in students. You will possess a commitment to continuous school improvement and development of the instructional program, particularly the pedagogy of beginning teachers, and building networks with other schools, agencies and services in the community to benefit school programs.
All three schools are key participants in the Esperance Network contributing to the Regional and Network plan aligned to the priorities of K-12 Pathways and Connected Autonomy contained in the DoE strategic document, Building on Strength. Condingup Primary School
Condingup is a small rural community 68 kilometres east of Esperance. The school is centrally located within the town and currently has 51 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school is well resourced and has a friendly and dedicated community committed to the school. Most of the children travel to and from school by bus from outlying farms.
Munglinup Primary School
The school is situated in a farming area west of Esperance (105km). The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6, and the small size (currently 13 students) provides a warm and welcoming learning environment. The school holds a belief in the whole child and encouraging their desire to achieve excellence and to reach their potential. The school’s aim is to promote creative and reflective decision making that will contribute to a lifelong love of learning, and empower students to be successful in their high school pathways.
Scaddan Primary School
The school is a caring and positive environment with high quality teaching enabling students to be successful in high school. The school nurtures excellence, respect and confidence in students enabling them to achieve their full potential. The school is located 50kms north from Esperance, catering for children from Kindergarten to Year 6. The student population, currently 26, is drawn from the Scaddan and Grass Patch farming communities.
The Principal supports the Department’s objectives for the public education and training of students in Western Australia. The role of the Principal is to lead and manage the planning, delivery, evaluation and improvement of the education of all students in a community through the deployment of resources provided by the Department of Education and the school community.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancies. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout these schools for up to 12 months following these initial appointments. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicants decline or vacate the advertised positions.
To be suitable for these roles, you will need to demonstrate the three leadership requirements and five professional practices particular to the role of a principal identified by the Australian Professional Standard for Principals:
- Effective leadership in teaching and learning
- Developing self and others
- Leading improvement, innovation and change
- Leading the management of the school
- Engaging and working with the community

All appointees to Principal positions longer than 6 months in duration who have not completed 6 months or more in a WA public school principal role prior to January 2015 will be required to satisfactorily complete all Principal Eligibility Modules. The Principal Eligibility Modules which are completed online must be completed within 6 months of commencement in a principal role.
ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
