This is a permanent part-time (0.38FTE) position commencing during Term 2, 2021
River Valley Primary School (PS) is seeking an organised, self-motivated and reliable Gardener - Handyperson to join their small, friendly team and to contribute towards a collaborative school culture.
River Valley PS is a small rural independent public school, located in picturesque surroundings within the township of Burekup. River Valley PS has clay based soils and is reticulated by both mains and bore water.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills are required to provide school grounds and maintenance advice and support to the Manager Corporate Services, and to establish and maintain good working relationships with all staff.
The successful applicant will know how to provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management.
It is expected that you will have the capacity to work unsupervised, with the ability to identify and recognise work that is required to be completed, without specific direction. All tasks and duties will be performed using safe work practices.
The successful applicant will ideally have experience maintaining gardening tools and horticultural equipment to a safe and serviceable condition and be able to carry out minor repairs and maintenance.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
