Derby District High School (DHS) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed teacher who has the knowledge, skills and understandings to teach in the Mathematics curriculum from Year 7 to Year 12 as well as a secondary Science teaching area.
Derby DHS is a dynamic school with a highly motivated staff. The collaborative approach, exciting work environment and the students make it a great place to teach. The school is currently part of the Kimberley School’s Project (KSP) and seeks staff to enact a targeted teaching approach as part of their overall teaching and learning programs.
The successful applicant will be a dedicated and motivated educator who has the ability to provide high quality teaching and learning programs that are as diverse and varied as the needs of our students. Applicants should be well versed in the Western Australian curriculum for Mathematics and Science. They will also be able to develop and deliver structured engaging courses to students of varying ability levels. As a teacher of Mathematics and Science, you should feel confident in your skills and abilities to encourage student passion and appreciation for learning area by relating student learning to real-world situations and industry. Applicants need to have the ability to use a range of effective teaching strategies to support and encourage student learning from basic functions to advanced skills in maths and science with a focus to meet the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and online literacy and numeracy assessment (OLNA) standards. Applicants who also have current knowledge and understanding of School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) WA curriculum are strongly encouraged to apply.
Derby DHS is located in Derby which is situated at the southern end of King Sound in the Kimberley region of Western Australian. Derby is 220 km east of Broome by road and is 2463 km north of Perth. It was the first town settled in the Kimberley. We are well supported with a range of government infrastructures. Its location near the King Sound and a number of rivers provides for many boating and fishing recreational activities - but not swimming! Derby DHS is located in attractive and well maintained grounds and surroundings. With an enrolment of over 600 students it provides an education program for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Students attend the school from the town of Derby and outlying areas including the Aboriginal communities of Mowanjum and Pandanus Park.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
