At KP ESC we share our site with Kalamunda Primary School and are surrounded by magnificent Nature play spaces and bush land. We are a growing, small school for students with disabilities. Initially, our Centre was established in 1985 as a school for children diagnosed with an Intellectual Disability (ID). Today, our enrolment still includes those students with an ID, but also encompasses students with Autism, Global delays and physical disabilities.
Applicants with superior interpersonal skills and having experience in all level 3 duties within an Education Support setting and in particular, early childhood, will be highly regarded.
This 6 month position is a shared role, 3 days in a Kindergarten Early Childhood class working alongside 3 other Education Assistants and a classroom teacher with the remaining days working in our Senior class, in a team of four.
The successful applicant will ideally have experience and knowledge in managing a variety of medical health plans, extensive knowledge and experience in TEACCH, experience in delivering explicit teaching programs in an Education Support setting and experience and knowledge of Augmented and Assistive Communication (AAC) tools.
As an Education Assistant - Special Needs you will, under general supervision and guidance, perform tasks that require discretion and judgement in achieving clearly defined outcomes determined by the teacher. You should be able to apply techniques, skills and knowledge of relevant principles and practices acquired through previous experience, job learning or relevant qualification.
You will ideally have prior experience working with students who have significant behavioural, medical and social needs. Applicants who have a high level of knowledge and experience in working with students with high levels of disabilities will be considered advantageous.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy.
