Disability Services and Support are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join their friendly team as Senior Consultant’s.

We currently have the following positions available:

  • (1) x – eight (8) month fixed term, full-time position with possible extension of up to 12 months
  • (1) x – ten (10) month fixed term, full-time position with possible extension of up to 12 months
  • (1) x – twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position with possible extension of up to 12 months

All positions will commence ASAP

The resourcing team is responsible for processing Individual Disability Allocation applications for students with an eligible disability. The successful applicants will possess a high level understanding of how students with disability may present in a classroom or school setting. Experience working as a teacher, special needs education assistant or therapist who has supported students with disability would be advantageous.

The Senior Consultants will possess an understanding of the educational adjustments required to enable students with disability to participate in the full school experience and have access to the curriculum and a program aligned to their specific learning needs. Senior Consultants assist school staff in applying for an Individual Disability Allocation through the Disability Resourcing System. High-level verbal and interpersonal skills are required to build positive relationships with schools. This may include presenting to networks and regions across the state on the use of the Disability Resourcing System as well as consulting with educators and other Department staff on complex cases.

The Senior Consultant’s will possess highly developed conceptual and analytical skills and an attention to detail when generating, collecting, reviewing and reporting on data to make informed judgements on students with disability. The successful applicants will assist in the preparation of responses related to students with disability therefore highly developed written and communication skills, including experience in the preparation of reports, correspondence, Ministerials and briefings, is highly desirable.

The Student Support Services Directorate is responsible for the delivery of integrated, state-wide services for networks, schools and teachers that support the engagement and wellbeing of every student. The services and support delivered through the Disability Services and Support Branch will provide the strategic management and coordination of policy, resourcing, services and support for students with disability.

The Disability Services and Support Branch is located within the Student Support Services Directorate, and part of Statewide Services. The goals of the branch are:

  • all students with disability have access to a program aligned with their learning needs;
  • all students with disability are able to participate in the full school experience;
  • all students with disability will transition into meaningful post school options;
  • there are demonstrable improvements in standards of achievement for students with disability; and parents/families and other stakeholders have high levels of satisfaction with the education provided for students with disability.

The services and support delivered through the Student Support Services Directorate are integrated with the Teaching and Learning Services Directorate, and all other functions of Statewide Services, to support the successful outcomes for all students. This is achieved through a focus on better integration of services with schools, students, families and external service providers, supporting schools and networks of schools to provide timely, responsive and effective support for each student and thereby creating expanded opportunities for students to develop the academic, personal and social competencies they will need to participate in the future workforce and society.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of the current legislation, policies, processes and issues associated with students with additional needs and experience in effectively applying that understanding.
  2. Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to deal effectively with change and generate innovative solutions.
  3. Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build partnerships and integrate services both within and beyond the Department.
  4. Highly developed written communication skills, including experience in the preparation of reports, correspondence, Ministerials and briefings.
  5. Highly developed planning and organisational skills, including the ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines.

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
