Are you passionate about engaging and inspiring EALD students and have a vision to improve outcomes for students in remote and regional areas who have recently arrived in Western Australia?
The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is introducing a pilot program to support recently arrived overseas students in the regional areas of WA who speak English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) students. The experienced part-time (0.4) EALD primary teacher, with recent school experience in teaching in an EALD context, will commence during Term Two.
We are looking for a dynamic, experienced EALD teacher who will bring classroom energy into our online environment, inspiring and engaging our students around Western Australia. If you are excited about sharing your passion for EALD teaching, working collaboratively in a vibrant team environment and learning and immersing yourself in the online teaching and learning space, this could be a role for you!
We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic primary teacher with the capacity to develop and deliver quality EALD programs suited to deliver in a distance education context. This may include a blended learning model, using online teaching and occasional visits to the students and schools.
You will lead the co-design process to develop inclusive, culturally and linguistically responsive teaching programs, working closely with the staff in the schools, students, families, local communities, SIDE staff and other stakeholders. You will collaborate with teachers at the schools to provide them with advice in the EALD Progress Maps and other strategies to enhance the outcomes for Stage 1 and Stage 2 students.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to have a relevant EALD qualification and recent classroom experience in an EALD setting. You will need to demonstrate project management skills, a willingness to learn, an ability to build excellent relationships with students, their parents and teachers.
You will embrace the idea of delivering the curriculum through information communication technology (ICT), exhibit innovation and creativity in classroom practices and be able to cater for students with culturally diverse backgrounds and a range of needs and abilities. Regional visits will play a part in getting to know your students, their families and teachers. These visits may include overnight stays
SIDE has a critical role within the Western Australian education system, supporting system needs and priorities. As a teacher with SIDE you will have the opportunity to reach out and make a difference to students throughout Western Australia, delivering high-quality distance education programs to suit the varying contexts and needs of our students. Our regional visit travel program allows teachers to meet and work face-to-face with students in all corners of the state.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
