The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) are seeking an efficient, innovative and industrious team member to join the Registered Training Orgnisation (RTO) as the Curriculum and Training Development Officer.
The Curriculum and Training Development Officer will have an in-depth knowledge of the education and Vocational Education Training (VET) sectors and possess detailed knowledge and experience of the development of competency based training and assessment materials that are compliant with nationally recognised training packages and the relevant clauses in the Standards for RTOs, (2015) and Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) requirements. Within this role the successful applicant will be responsible for curriculum and training development, stakeholder engagement, evaluation and curriculum related compliance activities as well as some administrative duties.
A key role of the Curriculum and Training Development Officer will be to plan, coordinate and manage the content and design of training and assessment materials and oversee, a team of writers. Dependant on the officer’s area of expertise, they may also be required to write training and assessment materials for selected qualifications and be involved in delivery in these areas.
The successful applicant will ensure training meets the needs and expectations of learners, trainers, teachers and industry, achieves school strategic outcomes; and provide professional development to stakeholders. The Curriculum and Training Development Officer will be required to conduct regular reviews, validation and moderation of training and assessment materials for all units of competency on the RTO scope of registration as well as facilitate and record feedback from stakeholders for continuous improvement of training delivery and assessment.
The SIDE is the main centre for K-12 distance education and online learning within the Western Australian Department of Education. The school provides quality education for students who for various reasons cannot attend classes in a regular school.
SIDE provides a wide range of educational programs in Western Australia through an online distance mode. The school uses digital technologies to deliver online education programs in both synchronous and asynchronous forms.
In addition, SIDE, as an RTO, provides quality vocational education and training programs VET. This provision of service has significant benefits for students and schools, particularly in regional and remote areas.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- experience in identifying, designing, developing, delivering and evaluating high quality vocational education and training courses and associated resource materials.
- well-developed ability to lead, manage, facilitate and work in a collaborative team environment, including the ability to prioritise and lead training programs and courses.
- high level interpersonal and verbal communication skills to undertake consultation, collaboration, negotiation and deliver training programs and courses.
- well-developed written communication skills, including considerable experience in the development of high quality training and development programs, courses and resources.
- project management and organisational skills to provide innovative solutions and the ability to prioritise tasks to meet conflicting timelines.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
- hold a current “C” class driver’s licence.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
