Cannington Community College (CC) seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Home Economics Assistant to join their school support team.
The successful applicant will be required to work effectively in a team environment, and should therefore be able to display initiative and organisational skills in order to achieve this consistently. Strong communication skills are integral for the role, which can include communicating with students, parents and teaching professionals on a regular basis.
In this role you will also assist with the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment by maintaining equipment, materials and resources for use in classes. You will assist the secondary teacher with clean and safe storage of items after classes and activities, and possess a high standard of food handling hygiene. Additionally, you would undertake cleaning and sanitising activities on a regular basis and thorough cleaning during the vacation periods.
Excellent interpersonal skills are key to this role, which can include working with staff and students from Cannington Community Education Support Centre, whom are co-located on site. Experience working with disabled students; a general understanding of first aid and working knowledge of Bernina sewing machines would also be desirable skills.
Cannington CC is situated in the heart of Cannington's business precinct and caters the diverse educational needs of students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Our experienced and highly trained teachers provide innovative and engaging lessons that motivate students to achieve their potential.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
