Appointment Pool
Willetton Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Home Economics Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2022.
As a Home Economics Assistant, your responsibilities include assisting the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computers, and under teacher direction, the implementation of individual or small group programs. In addition, you will provide assistance with the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment by maintaining equipment, materials and resources for use in classes, displays and demonstrations as well as facilitating the clean and safe storage of items after classes and activities.
As a suitable applicant, you will be required to possess sound communication skills in order to work effectively within a team environment and be able to interact with students, parents and teaching professionals on a regular basis. It is also a requirement of this position for successful applicants to have sound organisations skills so as to provide assistance with the management of resources by maintaining and updating inventory lists, monitoring stock levels and requirements, and report these matters to the teacher.
Willetton SHS has a student population in excess of 2500 and the school is inclusive and comprehensive providing courses for Years 7 to 12. The school successfully caters for the academic, social and emotional development of students with diverse educational needs including those with English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) background, special needs and gifted and talented students. There are approximately 200 teaching staff and 120 support staff on campus. Willetton staff recognise that students are individuals with different histories, interests, abilities and aptitudes. The school is committed to the intellectual, creative and social development of the students by the provision of stimulating and relevant programs and orderly teaching and classroom practices.
The school offers a number of specialist programs to meet student needs and interests. These programs include Gifted and Talented, Specialist Basketball and Computing and there is a strong focus on Vocational Education and Training (VET). There are numerous after school sporting teams, debating and poetry clubs. Willetton SHS is a Lead Language School and a Department of Education Teacher Development School in Languages. Willetton SHS prides itself on an ethos that all students should be successful.
As a highly effective educator you will need to possess an excellent understanding of the Western Australian curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements in lower school and the current senior school courses. This knowledge, combined with pedagogical skills enables the development of programs differentiated for the specific learning needs of all students across the full range of abilities.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
