Churchlands Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a committed Student Support Officer (SSO) to join their friendly team.
In the role of Student Support Officer (Mental Health) you will be responsible for developing and implementing research, data driven strategies to support the continued education and engagement of students with mental health concerns. You will work as part of the Student Services Team with individual and small groups of students to improve student classroom attendance and engagement in student learning.
Integral responsibilities of this role include attending agreed meetings and school activities; delivering intervention programs (5 to 8 sessions per week) and working in the classrooms for the majority of your time. You will assist students to use the strategies in their student plans such as reducing the frequency of leave pass use. In addition, you will develop links between the student, the family, the school and other relevant agencies in the community and establish a network of partnerships with external agencies.
Previous experience working with youth mental health and the delivery of resilience programs wold be highly desirable. Applicants with additional qualifications in Behavioural or Social Sciences are strongly encouraged to apply.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. - effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing prioritises within timelines.
- good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
- knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment; and
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
