Belmont City College (CC) has an exciting opportunity for an individual with expertise in Aboriginal education as the new Program Coordinator - Follow the Dream: Partnerships for Success. The program is delivered through a partnership between the Western Australian Department of Education and the Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation.
Follow the Dream: Partnerships for Success is a voluntary out of school education program targeted at aspirational and high-achieving Aboriginal students in Years 8 to 12 in Western Australia (WA). The program aims to support Aboriginal students to excel academically, complete secondary school and achieve entrance to university. Although university entrance is the primary goal, the program also supports students to achieve other tertiary placements, such as vocational education and training (VET), an apprenticeship or traineeship, or employment of their choice.
Program sites are based in schools with significant Aboriginal student populations. The program also provides an outreach service to students from a number of other schools.
The role of the Program Coordinator involves identifying students for participation, managing the selection process, managing each student case (including monitoring their academic progress and general wellbeing), developing individual learning plans with each student, providing subject advice and career guidance and information. The successful applicant will arrange extra-curricular enrichment activities, budget management, managing the learning centre, selecting and supporting the tutors, establishing and working with the Program Operations Group engaging parents, teachers, school staff, and other key stakeholders. The role of the Program Coordinator also includes working with outreach schools and their representatives in supporting the delivery of the program to identified students at these schools.
The successful applicant will be required to show an understanding of the program intent, requirements and an appreciation of issues regarding Aboriginal education, students and cultural perspectives. This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative, progressive educational team which has a strong ethos of pastoral care and excellence in achievement. We are looking for a motivated and committed Program Coordinator who is passionate about helping Aboriginal students reach their full potential.
At Belmont CC our focus is on providing an inclusive, respectful and productive educational environment where students achieve success in their academic, social and community endeavours. We pride ourselves on being a diverse school which gives individualised care and attention to help each of our students develop their self-confidence, independence, creativity, knowledge and skills to take advantage of opportunities beyond school.
A strong pastoral care program supports the social and emotional needs of our students, whilst the diverse range of academic and life skills programs nurture academic excellence for all students.
A strong focus on academic achievement, student support and technologies, as well as, the performing and visual arts provide opportunities for our students to develop their talents from Years 7 to 12.
