Wangkatjungka Remote Community School (RCS) is seeking to appoint a hardworking and motivated Walmajarri Aboriginal Language Teacher to join our friendly and supportive team.
The successful applicant will possess excellent interpersonal skills, will be highly proficient in classroom management and will be able to provide an innovative teaching and learning program in Language Walmajarri – which engages and motivates students.
This is a highly specialised role. Walmajarri Language skills are essential.
In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications and graduate untrained Aboriginal Languages teachers may be considered.
Wangkatjungka RCS is located in a remote Aboriginal community in the Kimberley region, approximately 110km from the nearest town centre, Fitzroy Crossing, including travel 20km of unsealed road. Three stations; Beefwood Park Station, Bulka Station and Christmas Creek Station surround the Wangkatjungka Community. Students that attend the school come from Wangkatjungka Community, Bawoorrooga Community, Kupartiya Community and Ngumpan Community, and occasionally from Galluru Community, Bulka Station and Christmas Creek Station.
In recent years, the school enrolment has ranged between 40 to 60 students, the majority of whom are Aboriginal. The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6, with all four classes being multi-aged grouped. A 0-3 early childhood program runs at the school for community members to bring their non-school aged children for early learning.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
