Fitzroy Valley District High School (DHS) is seeking a highly competent and experienced Vocational Education and Workplace Learning (WPL) Coordinator to join our proactive and dedicated leadership team.
The successful applicant will be committed to supporting student achievement through a positive approach to implementing Vocational Education programs and facilitating Workplace Learning in the High School. The role of Vocational Education and WPL Coordinator is dynamic, strategic, proactive and hands on. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Senior School staff and Executive School Leadership Teams to develop, manage and deliver relevant programs and initiatives to support the school vision, strategic planning, and PBS core values of respect, resilience and responsibility.
This role is an integral part of our Senior School Team and the successful applicant will motivate and lead by example. A strong pastoral care ethos is desired. You will ideally possess high levels of interpersonal skills as the role requires to develop successful working relationships with the external organisations of the wider Fitzroy Valley Region. Having a comprehensive understanding of the Kimberley region, particularly the Fitzroy Valley and Aboriginal Education will be of great benefit in succeeding in this role.
Fitzroy Valley DHS is situated in the Fitzroy Valley in the scenic Kimberley region of Western Australia. The town of Fitzroy Crossing is situated on the banks of the Fitzroy River and lends itself to the outdoor adventure lifestyle with easy access to the Gibb River Road and all of its wonders. Many camping and fishing spots such as Geikie Gorge and Tunnel Creek are situated close by. Fitzroy Crossing is located 380kms to the regional tourist attraction of Broome.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Knowledge of VET and WPL programs and the ability to facilitate school/industry partnerships.
- Organisational and planning skills and well developed computer skills, including databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to establish, influence and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Well developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- hold a current ‘C’ or ‘C.A.’ class drivers licence
- hold or obtain a valid White Card
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
