Student Support Services – Statewide Services are seeking an experienced and motivated Principal Advisor to effectively lead the implementation of the Everyday Matters 10‑point plan to improve student attendance. The Principal Advisor will be responsible for leading a project team to implement the 10-point plan, which sets a new direction for the Department.
To inform the implementation plan and strategies, the Principal Advisor will conduct high-level consultation and co-design processes across the Department, within schools and communities for improving student attendance and enhancing learning outcomes for students.
The services and support delivered through the Student Support Services Directorate are aligned with functions of Statewide Services to support successful outcomes for all students. This is achieved through a focus on better integration of services with schools, students, families and external service providers, and supporting schools and networks of schools to provide timely, responsive and effective support for each student. Through this work expanded opportunities are created for students to develop the academic, personal and social competencies they will need to participate in the future workforce and society.
The successful applicant will lead the team to plan, implement and evaluate system-wide learning, teaching and assessment programs and policies that target improvements in student achievement and attendance, undertake research on evidence based practices and professional learning to support schools, prepare reports, strategies and briefing notes, and collect, analyse and interpret quality data and contextual information as part of system-wide approach to reporting, accountability and planning for improvement. This work will be done in conjunction with key leaders within Statewide Services and across the system.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- extensive knowledge and understanding of current trends, initiatives and reforms in education.
- highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to undertake high-level negotiations, consultations and collaborations.
- Highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including experience in the preparation of complex reports and presenting contentious information to a range of stakeholders.
- Extensive skills and experience in providing effective educational leadership in a diverse range of school educational settings.
- Extensive skills and experience in the development and implementation of professional learning programs, projects or strategies at a school, region or system level.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and strategy formulation skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems.
