Hedland Senior High School (SHS) is currently seeking a highly experienced, dynamic, innovative and proactive Program Coordinator - Vocational Education and Training (VET) to join our senior school team.
The Program Coordinator - VET will provide educational leadership in the planning, implementation and management of sustainable VET pathways for students in years 10 – 12. This is an exciting opportunity for a leader who has an in-depth knowledge of Senior Secondary schooling including WACE, VET delivery, endorsed programs and School Based Traineeships. It is crucial that the successful applicant also has a strong understanding of School Curriculum & Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements, University and TAFE requirements and pathways, and Departmental systems and policies.
The successful applicant will work in collaboration with the senior management team to develop and promote the school’s VET program with students, staff and the school community. A key focus area will be the ability to seek and further develop partnerships with local business and other organisations with the aim of creating many and varied opportunities for our students. There is also an associated responsibility to manage administrative and operational systems for enrolment and reporting of student VET achievement and oversee the VET budget in consultation with the Deputy Principal of Senior School.
Another key aspect of the role is the overall coordination and management of the VET programs offered both on and off site (including certificate courses, traineeships and endorsed programs) as well as the planning, delivery and assessment of the workplace learning program. It is preferred that the successful applicant will hold a current Certificate IV Training and Assessment.
Hedland SHS, located in South Hedland in the Pilbara, is an Independent Public School catering for students from Years 7 to 12. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
