Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/TCH655915
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2021.
Are you seeking a challenging, exciting and professionally satisfying career?
Karratha Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a teacher keen to engage and instruct students through implementing the Big Picture Education design which encourages all students to identify and pursue their interests and passions through Advisory groups. We want to prepare our young people well for post-school life and we start that by engaging students in the community through internships. We aim to be strongly connected with families. We do this each term through learning plan meetings and exhibitions. We have high expectations of each and every student to do the best they can and be the best they can be.
The Advisory is a small community within the school. You will work with these students each day. In this way an Advisory is like an extended family. Students are expected to become respectful, caring and productive members of the Advisory group. The Advisory teacher’s role is to teach inspire, provoke, bond, organize and manage learning. You will negotiate student learning plans, convene meetings with students, parents and mentors, help students develop extended projects and prepare for exhibitions. Advisory teachers take responsibility for student learning across the curriculum including literacy and numeracy. You will discover how a philosophy of combining personalised learning and working together - one student at a time in a community of learners - is the key to creating schools where students are engaged in meaningful learning, and where academic progress is measured against real-world standards and how it transforms the young people in it. Do this and you make a difference to these young peoples’ lives and the community for years to come.
Karratha SHS has a focus on academic improvement of all students. All teachers at the school actively take part in Classroom Observation, embedding literacy and numeracy into all areas of teaching, data analysis and case management of students.
Our school has a population of approximately 1200 students and is situated on a state of the art, campus which was completed in 2013. Students at Karratha SHS come from all contributory primary schools as well as those from across Australia. Many families move to Karratha and surrounding townships such as Dampier, Point Samson, Roebourne and Wickham to work in the diverse mining, tourism and retail industries in the region.
The school motto “Towards Tomorrow” ensures that the school’s curriculum focuses on preparing all students for the future. The motto embraces the aim of nurturing responsible and caring individuals in order that they are fully prepared for success in a rapidly changing world.
At Karratha SHS, students, parents, staff and all other stakeholders work together to support all activities that form part of the learning program at the school. Through this partnership, we share the responsibility for the growth and development of our students, striving to make our school a safe, respectful, innovative and exciting learning environment.
