Karratha Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and innovative Performance Arts - Drama teacher to join our dedicated Arts team at Karratha SHS. The successful applicant will demonstrate commitment to supporting student achievement through a positive approach to student learning.
The Karratha SHS Arts Department has grown exponentially over the past few years and offers lower secondary elective subjects as well as year 11 and 12 General, Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and Certificate II units in both visual and performing arts. The Arts Department is actively involved in extracurricular and community events such as the annual Karratha SHS Arts Showcase, Cossack Art Awards, YOH Fest, FeNaClNG Festival and Country Week. The City of Karratha has a new state of the art theatre the Red Earth Arts Precinct, which hosts many local and travelling productions throughout the year.
The suitable applicant will be able to teach Performance Arts - Drama across a range of ability levels from Year 7 to Year 12. They will require sound interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and the ability to work cooperatively in a Learning Area team. Sound classroom management, the capacity to develop rapport and motivate students, differentiate curriculum to cater for individual student needs and to practise a range of teaching strategies are all vital for this position.
Karratha SHS has a focus on academic improvement for all students. Karratha SHS teachers are expected to actively take part in Classroom Observation practices, explicitly use an Instructional Model in the planning and delivery of lessons, embed literacy and numeracy into all areas of teaching, and utilise data analysis in their planning and case management of students.
Karratha SHS has a population of 1250 students and is situated on a state of the art campus which was completed in 2013. Students at Karratha SHS come from all contributory primary schools as well as those from across Australia. Many families move to Karratha and surrounding townships such as Dampier, Point Samson, Roebourne and Wickham to work in the diverse mining and retail industries in the region.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
