Belmont City College (CC) is seeking to appoint dynamic and committed teachers in our Positive Engagement Program in 2021.
We currently have the following positions available:
- 1x – twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position with possible extension (12 months)
- 1x – twelve (12) month fixed term, part-time (0.5FTE) position/s, with possible extension
All positions will commence Term 1, 2021.
The Positive Engagement Program is an exciting opportunity being developed in partnership with the City of Belmont to support at-risk youth in Years 7 to 9 who experience challenges engaging in a mainstream secondary school environment. The program will be delivered off-site and will be well supported by Belmont City College, the City of Belmont and a number of external agencies.
The Positive Engagement Program will deliver specialised activities and learning programs that build upon students’ social skills and self-regulation. An emphasis will be placed on individual education plans, personal learning projects, social and emotional education, life skills and embedded literacy and numeracy remediation, as required by each individual student. The role will include the creation and contribution to documents such as Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Management Plans, Risk Management Plans and Escalation profiles to support student learning.
The successful applicants will have a growth mindset and a strong sense of social justice as well as being committed to supporting young people to overcome barriers to their education and personal development. They will ideally have knowledge of exemplary teaching practices, communication skills, teamwork and the ability to build rapport with diverse groups of young people in educational settings. The ability to maintain productive lines of communication between school and community stakeholders in order to maintain focus and alignment of objectives will be crucial.
Experience working in alternative education settings is desirable, as is knowledge and/or experience of trauma-informed practice, therapeutic crisis intervention in schools, functional behavioural assessment, classroom management strategies and the positive behaviour support framework. A capacity and willingness to participate in targeted professional development in areas such as these will be essential to this role.
The successful applicants will need to possess the ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams. The Positive Engagement Program teaching team will be collaboratively supported by the Belmont City College Student Services team, community agencies and other stakeholders. The capacity to forge strong working relationships in diverse environments will be viewed favourably, as will the ability to draw on a range of community resources and agencies to support student outcomes.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
