Geraldton Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to employ a dedicated and innovative Mathematics teacher for a permanent teaching position commencing Term 1, 2021.
The successful applicant will be highly effective in engaging and motivating students and creating an exciting learning environment. They will possess excellent interpersonal skills and work closely with students, staff and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students. The successful applicant will work as part of a dedicated team to develop, review and deliver Maths curriculum, with a view to teaching senior students as the school continues to expand. They will have strong teaching and classroom management skills and develop positive relationships with all students to engage them in effective learning.
Applicants would need to have a sound understanding of the developmental needs of students at all phases of the Western Australian Curriculum and will be skilled in differentiating the curriculum to meet the academic needs of all students. There is a strong focus on data analysis and skills in evidence based planning to improve outcomes for all students. A commitment to explicit teaching is an expectation of all staff. Other key expectations include the application of Classroom Management Strategies and progressive use of ICT in the classroom. Support and training is provided for these keys areas.
The successful applicant will ideally have proven skills in behaviour management, curriculum expertise and have achieved high levels of student achievement in Mathematics. They will have a commitment to inclusive education and a strategic approach in planning for improved student outcomes. There is an expectation that all teachers will engage in reflective practice, informed by classroom observation, student feedback surveys and close interrogation of student performance data.
Geraldton Senior High School currently caters for students in Years 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12. We will further expand in 2021 (Year 9) enabling young people to complete their whole secondary education at our school.
Our belief is that every child comes to us with unique experiences, learning styles and goals. From this we provide a broad comprehensive education with pathways leading to attainment of an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications or future employment. We encourage each student to participate in a range of state and national competitions and to take up extra-curricular activities in music, drama, dance and sport.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
