This is a twelve (12) month fixed-term, full time position commencing Term 1, 2021 with possible extension and/or permanency.
Melville Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and creative Design and Technologies teacher to join their team.
The suitable applicant will be a dedicated and motivated educator with the ability to provide high quality Design and Technologies teaching and learning programs which can be differentiated to meet the varied needs of our students. Applicants should have an excellent knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum for Design & Technologies and be able to develop and deliver courses to students of varying ability levels across Year 7 – 12 in an engaging and relevant manner. Applicants will work hard to encourage student passion and appreciation for Design and Technologies by relating student learning to real-world situations and industry. Capacity to teach digital technologies is highly desirable for this position.

Applicants will be able to effectively facilitate innovative and engaging learning experiences that support students to become critical, confident and successful users of Design Technologies and producers of design solutions. You will be committed to planning and developing challenging programs, lessons and assessments that promote 21st century attributes and skills such as critical-thinking, communication, confidence, persistence, innovation, creativity, and collaborative amongst your students.
Your passion for the Design and Technologies, your high-quality teaching and outstanding relationship skills will foster in students a love for the subject and a desire to pursue it in senior school. The successful applicant will also be passionate about contributing to the school’s extra-curricular learning opportunities for students that compliments their classroom learning and enables additional knowledge and skill development.
A Certificate 4 in Workplace Training and Assessment qualification and the background knowledge and skills to deliver certificate-based courses is highly desirable for this position.
Specific knowledge and skills in the delivery of one or more of the following technologies is advantageous but not essential: engineering (at an ATAR and/or Certificate level) computer hardware and software, robotics, aviation studies, STEM skills and design thinking process, online platforms, coding languages and networking. The capacity to teach one or more of the above listed technologies at an ATAR level is desirable.

Applicants will work in collaboration with the Head of Learning Area to lead improvements in pedagogy, curriculum and programming across Year 7 to 12 and to achieve set targets in the School Business Plan.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
