The Rossmoyne Community Kindergarten is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Education Assistant Mainstream to join their team of passionate Early Childhood educators.
As an Education Assistant – Mainstream you will be required to assist in the delivery of an outstanding Kindergarten program in a learning environment that is held in high regard in the Rossmoyne Community.
The successful applicant will need to possess a sound understanding of best practice in Early Childhood Education philosophy and pedagogy, be able to work collaboratively in a team environment, be able to work effectively with individual and small groups of students, possess good written and oral skills to enable the achievement of positive educational outcomes for students and to build strong relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
The successful applicant will also be organised and able to use their initiative to assist in the preparation and maintenance of the Kindergarten learning environment. The learning program is vibrant and engaging and is aligned with the values of the Early Years Learning Framework of Belonging, Being and Becoming.
The Rossmoyne Community Kindergarten is a community kindergarten which operates from a purpose built building which is leased from the City of Canning. The Kindergarten building and grounds are vibrant and engaging and foster the students’ curiosity and creativity. The Kindergarten’s learning program and environment strive to instil a love of learning through providing quality learning experiences which assist in the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of every child.
Some of the programs that have been implemented at the Kindergarten include Letters and Sounds - synthetic phonics, Finger Gym and the PATHS Social and Emotional Development program. The Kindergarten also places a strong emphasis on Nature Play and offers outdoor activities as part of a Bush Kindy program. One of the unique features of the Kindergarten program is the students contact with the Kindergarten pets which include chickens, stick insects and kangaroos.
The Staff are appointed by the Education Department and the Kindergarten is managed by an active Parent Committee in co-operation with the teachers and the local community. The Community Kindergarten maintains strong links with Rossmoyne Primary School. As a Community Kindergarten funding is gained through community support, kindergarten fees and a variety of grants and donations. The Kindergarten also relies on a vast array of parent and community volunteers
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Sound oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, parents and teaching professionals.
- Sound interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Sound organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective educational programs to students.
- Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
