Appointment Pool
We are seeking to establish a pool of Cleaners in Charge for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year.
Suitable applicants should be a highly motivated and proactive and take pride in being responsible for providing a high standard of cleanliness within the workplace in order to provide a visually pleasing and safe learning environment for our students, staff and visitors to the school.
You will be able to organise and supervise staff, have a sound knowledge of cleaning equipment and safe cleaning procedures, methods and practices. Suitable applicants will have strong interpersonal and team motivational skills, be well organised and have good record keeping skills.
The Cleaner in Charge should have great communication skills and experience in supervising staff, as the successful applicant will be responsible for the organising and supervising of school cleaning staff, including arranging relief staff. They will be responsible for highlighting issues and concerns on behalf of cleaners and respond to issues raised by other school staff.
In addition to the above, the Cleaner in Charge will liaise with the Manager Corporate Services on all cleaning matters, and record and respond to issues and concerns detailed in the communication book. They will maintain the cleaners’ time book along with organise and supervise the cleaning of the school, be responsible for monitoring and ordering stock supplies, opening and locking the school, including setting the security alarm system.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete the Department’s online training in manual tasks and hazardous substances within three months of commencement
- complete Fundamentals of Cleaning training as soon as practicable
- complete any other training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
