Appointment Pool
Melville Senior High School (MSHS) is seeking to establish a pool of dedicated and enthusiastic Teachers - Students At Educational Risk to join our positive and motivated RISE Program Engagement Team. This will be for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements up to the end of Term 4, 2021.
This selection process will initially be used to fill two vacancies as of Term 1, 2021, but may also be used to appoint successful pool applicants to other vacancies which may arise throughout the 2021 school year.
The program caters for approximately 40 at-risk students across Year 7 to 12, from varying cultural backgrounds. The MSHS Engagement Program caters for students who are below the benchmarks in literacy and numeracy and who require targeted support to improve their attendance, engagement and achievement. Students are part of smaller classes and an educationally safe and caring environment to better meet their learning needs. Suitable applicants will be driven by the belief that all students can be successful learners through the delivery of a high-quality, differentiated teaching and learning program, strong pastoral care and high expectations for learning and achievement. To complement the academic focus of the program, life-skills based initiatives form a key part of the comprehensive educational program delivered to students. These initiatives aim to promote healthy decision-making, facilitate social-emotional development and support positive health and well-being outcomes for students in the RISE Program.
We are seeking teachers who are engaging, improvement focused and highly skilled in building respectful relationships and meaningful connections with their students. You will possess empathy and compassion for your students, whilst being able to successfully implement consistent structures, boundaries and highly effective classroom management strategies in your classroom.
Suitable applicants will be able to build and sustain an inclusive learning environment that reflects our school values and helps to instil in students a strong sense of belonging and connection to each other and the school. You will be passionate about providing educational opportunities and activities that foster self-determination and enable students to realise their full potential. Suitable applicants will be self-motivated, resilient and prepared to work proactively as part of a high functioning team, committed to improving student outcomes. A proven ability to work as part of a team and in strong partnership with a Student Services Team is essential for this role.
Applicants will be genuinely excited by the opportunity to mentor and support students at educational risk and to make a positive difference to them as learners and as people. You will be motivated by the opportunity to be appointed to a position of significant influence, where you can positively shape young lives and prepare students for a successful transition into a recognised post-school pathway, including either a traineeship, apprenticeship, TAFE qualification, employment or a combination of these.
A background in literacy and/or numeracy development and/or a Certificate 4 Workplace Training and Assessment is desirable, but not essential.
At MSHS we support the development of our teachers and aspiring leaders with a strong professional learning program and opportunities to be part of our Aspirant Leaders Program.
