At Harrisdale Primary School we are developing students with the skills to learn, live and work in the 21st Century. We are seeking a Deputy Principal with highly developed knowledge of current research and evidence-based practice to lead staff in the contemporary pedagogy of ICT integration into teaching and learning programs (particularly with Apple Technologies) and STEM in our school. Harrisdale PS is a Teacher Development School (TDS) - Digital Technologies and a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Mentor School and we are looking for a dynamic deputy to continue these initiatives, bringing their own strengths and ideas to the role.
As Deputy Principal, you will ideally be an excellent educator whilst being driven to excel and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead and engage with individuals at all levels. Critical to the role, is your capacity to build positive relationships and trust with staff. You will be able to collaborate very effectively with others to sustain a professional team culture whereby staff feel supported. You will be motivated and self-driven, able to work collaboratively or independently.
Working as an effective member of the Executive Team, you will provide educational leadership in the school and community by developing and promoting the school vision and values. You will lead and work collaboratively with staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality curriculum, effective quality teaching (including explicit teaching), professional learning, leadership development, effective use of resources and positive promotion of Harrisdale Primary School within our school community and further.
With consideration of the school’s planning structures, financial and legislative requirements, your professional knowledge and experience will desirably include; human resource and workforce management, an understanding of schools resourcing and performance development. As a member of the Executive team you will work within the team to promote whole school approaches, attend to behaviour management, provide for students at risk, reporting to parents and other responsibilities within the team. It would be advantageous to have sound knowledge of Visible Learning principles.
The successful applicant will ideally be a high performer with successful leadership and management experience. Ideally, you will exhibit the capability and commitment required to continue to develop and sustain conditions for whole school improvement, develop leadership capacity in others and support the growth of instructional leadership across the school. You will be a highly effective coach who fosters professional growth in others and cultivates successful outcomes-focussed teams that are reflective and use evidence and data to inform their decision-making. It is highly desirable that you will have knowledge of recent research and current best practice.
Harrisdale Primary opened in 2016. Currently in its fifth year, it is the fastest growing and largest primary school in WA. It has a diverse community with a significant EAL/D community. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
