The School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN: Behaviour and Engagement) is seeking an enthusiastic Teacher – Engagement to join our team in the Goldfields Engagement Centre based in Boulder.
The successful applicant will be provided with the opportunity to work in a self-managing role responsible for supporting schools and students from Kindergarten to Year 12 (K-12) across the Goldfields region, implementing and reporting on individual case management for highly complex students.
The successful applicant will confidently provide a high level of consultancy to school staff and establish and maintain effective working relationships to improve student related outcomes. As the Teacher – Engagement you should ideally have prior experience and knowledge in managing challenging behaviours for students along with supporting other colleagues to develop improved behaviour management skill sets.
The role will include collaboratively creating documents to support personalised learning in the area of behaviour and self-regulation including but not limited to Individual Behaviour Management Plans (IBMP), Risk Management Plans (RMP), Functional Behavioural Assessment (FBA) and escalation profiles. Knowledge of Special Educational Needs (SEN) planning, evidence informed social and emotional learning programs, Positive Behaviour Support and Trauma Informed Practice are desirable to the business needs of our school. Suitable applicants may be responsible for teaching students that require intensive support on site at the Engagement Centre. Teachers will also participate in and deliver, targeted professional learning and engage professionally with colleagues, parents and the community including other Department teams and external agencies to support student engagement.
The SSEN: Behaviour and Engagement provides educational support and services to schools for students with extreme, complex and challenging behaviours across a K-12 context. A continuum of consultative support to schools for students is delivered through 13 engagement centres and the Midland Learning Academy. The services of the engagement centres and the Academy are coordinated through SSEN: Behaviour and Engagement which provides the administrative structure that oversees and manages these services as a State-wide model of support for schools, teachers and students. The services complement other teams working in networks, regions and schools, supporting a greater number of students across the state.
Engagement Centres coordinate the K-12 provision of the following three services:
- Professional learning to improve student engagement and behaviour
- Consultative support for schools needing additional assistance with planning for those students with very complex needs
- Intensive support for individual students exhibiting the most extreme, challenging and complex needs.
The suitable applicant will be located onsite at the Goldfields Engagement Centre in Boulder. This position will involve the successful applicant visiting schools across the Goldfields region to provide school and student support. The successful applicant will need to be prepared to travel, including overnight stays in Perth and air travel in light aircraft. This role will also require the successful applicant to hold and maintain a WA driver’s licence.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
