Challis Community Primary School (CPS) is seeking to establish a pool of enthusiastic, energetic and innovative Library Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2020 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2021. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2020 school year, up to the end of Term 4, 2021.
As a Library Officer, you should be able to easily engage with and encourage students’ love of literature and to complement all aspects of their studies with the use of technology and library resources. You will be required to supervise the day-to-day operations of the library and provision of information and electronic services to staff and students. You will administer library systems which ensure library records are up-to-date and library resources are maintained and processed so they are accessible and available to students and staff at all times.
In this role, you will also be responsible for excellent internal and external customer and library service in response to the information needs of library users and the overall school community. Furthermore, you will need to select and order high quality resources that match and enhance the West Australian curriculum, assemble and arrange displays of books and other library materials to enhance school priorities and awareness of available resources, ensuring an inviting environment is maintained.
Suitable applicants will develop and support the day-to-day operations of the library and provision of reference, information and associated services to teaching staff and students. They will also conduct library skills training and demonstrate the use of library systems and equipment, prepare stimulating and topical library displays and connect purchasing with curriculum initiatives in the school. They will also be expected to manage the books associated with the core learning areas.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
- Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spread sheets and word processing.
- Experience in providing administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
