Appointment Pool
The South Metropolitan Education Regional Office is seeking to establish a pool of Administration Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2020 and up to the end of October 2021. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2020, up to the end of October 2021.
The South Metropolitan Education Region is one of eight Department of Education Regions in Western Australia. It services over 260 public schools. We support these schools in achieving care and success for all their students.
Suitable applicants will provide broad-ranging administrative support to the Regional Office. We are seeking applicants who are customer focused, efficient and have initiative and creativity in their role as Administration Assistant. Strong communication skills will be needed to manage incoming telephone calls, emails and visitor enquiries.
The role encompasses all aspects of office duties including the effective processing, distribution and retrieval of information and electronic communications in the form of emails, business correspondence, newsletters, diary appointments, room bookings, fleet management support, assets and travel documentation. They will be required to make payments, reconcile accounts and undertake basic research as required.
They will manage our corporate information records in both hard and soft copies incorporating our records management system HPRM (TRIM). It is highly desirable to have prior experience with electronic archiving systems.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Experience in clerical and general administrative duties.
- Experience in purchasing, processing accounts for payment and monitoring expenditure for a work unit.
- Sound written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with individuals at all levels.
- Well developed keyboarding and computer skills including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, word processing and experience using an electronic records management system.
- Sound organisational skills, including the ability to use initiative and work independently or as part of a team.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy; and
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
