Sorrento Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated Primary Teacher to join our friendly and supportive team. You will be required to teach Upper Primary in Years 5 & 6.

Creating and maintaining an ethos of positive behaviours, and adopting a sense of responsibility for all students through engaging in our whole school Positive Behaviour Support program will be essential. Ideally, applicants will have experience in effective use of Classroom Management Strategies.
The successful applicant will be highly motivated, highly skilled educators who possess the qualities to promote excellence and build effective teams. A collaborative team approach will ensure individualised and targeted intervention and support to enable every child to reach their full potential. You will also be responsible for working collaboratively as part of a highly effective Professional Learning Community and consistently use evidence based teaching and learning practices that prioritise the reflective use of data and embedded differentiation to support all students.
The school has implemented whole school research and evidence informed approaches that ensure every child acquires the core literacy and numeracy skills, as well as the knowledge and attitudes required to become confident and competent 21st century learners. This role requires an excellent knowledge of Explicit Instruction particularly in Literacy and Numeracy and the ability to adopt high impact teaching strategies and use ongoing formative assessment to provide feedback to students at the point of error and measure student progress to plan for the next steps in learning. A knowledge of Talk 4 Writing, Synthetic Phonics, Literature Based Units and the ability to deliver innovative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs would be desirable. Sorrento Primary School has a successful Bring-Your-Own iPad program. The successful applicant will ideally be confident in the application of ICT Capabilities integration across the curriculum to enhance student achievement.
As an upper primary teacher, the successful applicant will ideally have proven experience in planning school camps, graduation ceremonies and working with student leaders to develop and support their roles.
You will support the implementation of the School Business Plan and have a desire for leadership responsibilities beyond their classroom. Being a lifelong learner is a key part of our school strategic planning and as the successful applicant and leader within our school, you will be committed to relevant professional learning to further your own, and others, development.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
