This is a ten (10) month fixed-term part time (0.4FTE) position commencing Term 4, 2020
Morawa District High School is seeking to appoint a reliable and enthusiastic Education Assistant – Mainstream to join the school.
As Education Assistant – Mainstream you will be asked to support the teaching and learning of students by assisting the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computer and digital technologies. As well as implement individual student or small group programs or demonstrations. You will be able to help in the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment and care and supervision of students in and out of class. Applicants will also ideally have demonstrated skills in behaviour management strategies in conjunction with the teacher.
The successful applicants will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with the Teacher to create and maintain an effective and inclusive learning environment. They will be committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students and will work as part of a dedicated team to make a lasting contribution to our school community.
Suitable applicants will ideally have prior experience working with students who have high behavioural medical, intellectual and social needs. Experience across a range of disabilities in both primary and secondary school environment, combined with a flexible, friendly approach and good interpersonal skills is highly desirable.
The successful applicant will assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and in promoting a supportive and productive learning environment. Our staff work under general supervision and autonomously and are required to contribute advice and expertise, actively collaborating with colleagues to support student and whole school achievement. We require the successful applicant to be organised, committed and have a broad range of skills and strategies to meet the needs of diverse groups of learners with disability. ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
