Greenwood College, (GC), is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Coordinator – Intensive English Centre/English as an Additional Language/Dialect (IEC/EALD) to manage the educational programs, resourcing and support for students at GC where English is their second or additional language. Leadership of the school’s Languages other than English (LOTE) program is also included in this role. The Program Coordinator – IEC/EALD will work closely with the Principal and members of the Senior Leadership Team to provide outstanding educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness.
The Intensive English Centre (IEC) caters for the needs of students aged between 12 and 16 years, who have recently arrived in Western Australia from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Approximately 30-40 different nationalities and languages are represented at the IEC at any one time. The student body is comprised of migrants, refugees, international fee paying students and short term fee paying students.
The IEC prepares students to achieve the required standards in English in order to enter mainstream Australian High Schools. After graduating from the IEC, further support is provided in mainstream classes until the students are able to participate independently. Whilst the focus for the IEC is the English language needs of newly arrived students, we also provide a transition point for students and parents who are adapting to a new culture. Small classes, expert staff and culturally sensitive pastoral care are features of our centre.
The successful applicant will ideally be an exemplary classroom practitioner who can lead the implementation of excellence in teaching and learning, and demonstrate an ability to build capacity and capabilities of staff using a variety of teacher development and coaching methods. The successful applicant will undertake reflective performance development conversations, using key standards and be able to reflect and provide feedback to your team members regarding effectiveness of teaching practice.
The successful applicant will ideally have the ability to lead improvement and change initiatives and continually reflect on teaching and learning in English & Languages. It is desirable for applicants to have the ability to use data analysis to inform planning and assessment, utilise data to drive change and improve students’ academic performance. The successful applicant will lead learning opportunities for staff to ensure consistently high levels of curriculum delivery is occurring.
As the successful applicant, your leadership will be supported by the capacity to build positive relationships with staff, as you lead a professional learning community of teachers. The successful applicant will desirably have highly efficient communication skills including proficiency in a language other than English. You will be able to collaborate very effectively with others to sustain a professional team culture whereby staff feel supported to share effective teaching and learning practices.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
