The Communications and Media Branch is seeking to appoint a highly dedicated and motivated individual to the role of Principal Consultant.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing professional and strategic management support to the Director for effective development, implementation, coordination and management of Communications and Media projects, programs and initiatives, and is the main contact for the Manager of the Office of the Director General. This role may require you to work closely with the Minister’s office and Principal Consultants from other Divisions to ensure any risk management issues are effectively managed. When issues and problems are identified, they are investigated and resolved in a systematic manner.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- High-level professional knowledge and experience in the context of the role of this position.
- Substantial skills and experience in managing a range of complex projects and issues.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking senior-level consultations, collaborations and negotiations.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical, research and investigation skills with the ability to identify issues and trends and provide innovative solutions to complex problems and issues.
- Highly developed written communication skills, including extensive experience in the preparation of correspondence, reports, Ministerials and briefing notes.
- Highly developed organisational skills with a proven ability to deliver outcomes on schedule in a demanding environment and under tight timeframes.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
