Kelmscott Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an innovative, experienced and effective leader with outstanding interpersonal skills to fill the role of Program Coordinator - Technologies to join the leadership team.
As a member of the School Leadership Team, the Program Coordinator will contribute to the implementation of the school’s Business Plan through participative decision making whilst promoting the school’s vision and strategic directions. The successful applicant will continually drive improvement by providing proactive leadership that is collaborative, inspiring and supportive. Leading by example, you will model high aspirations and expectations of staff and students.
As a dynamic and experienced leader of Technologies, the successful applicant will ideally possess the skills and initiative required to ensure that this learning area remains relevant and attractive to students in a rapidly changing environment. One of the key responsibilities will include managing the transition of the existing separate technologies contexts to a connected hub of technologies. This will include effectively leading and managing a diverse and relatively autonomous group of staff across the technologies and moulding them into a cohesive team. The Technologies Learning Area covers the broad range of technologies contexts including:
- Design and technologies;
- Materials technologies;
- Engineering principles and systems;
- Food technologies; and
- Digital technologies.
As Program Coordinator, you will play a significant role in marketing the school to the wider community by leading initiatives and the successful achievements of students through systemic initiatives in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). An area for future development will be the context of engineering.
The successful applicant will ideally possess the ability to lead change, supported by your capacity to use evidence-based data to inform your decision making when implementing innovation within the learning area. You will be responsible for the analysis of performance related data within the technologies learning area and the development, implementation and analyses of improvement plans, both operational and strategic. The successful applicant will desirably have experience building collaborative teams of teachers and leading curriculum development and instructional design, ensuring that all teachers are developing consistent practices that maximise student learning and engagement.
Kelmscott SHS expects all staff to be active members of a professional learning community that initiates and engages in professional discussions with colleagues. This is used to evaluate and improve practice in line with Australian Professional Standards for Teachers whilst actively contributing to the priorities of the school’s business plan. The successful applicant will ideally have the highest level of interpersonal and leadership skills to lead, empower and bring the best out of staff. The Program Coordinator – Technologies will lead reflective performance development discussions with staff through coaching, developing an ethos of teacher self-reflection, feedback, data analysis and a review of summative and formative assessment practices. Facilitating the effective implementation of instructional intelligences, classroom observation and student voice, you will also model highly reflective practices as both teacher and leader.
The Program Coordinator - Technologies will ideally possess an excellent understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum; assessment and reporting requirements in both the lower and senior school courses; and contemporary pedagogical skills that will enable the development of highly effective teaching and learning programs that cater for the specific learning needs of all students. You will also require the capacity to lead and evaluate moderation activities that ensure consistent and comparable judgements of student learning to meet curriculum and school or system requirements. As Program Coordinator – Technologies you will lead flexible and adaptive teachers who will apply differentiated instruction and explicit teaching across all year levels.
The successful applicant will be an exemplary classroom practitioner who can lead the implementation of excellence in learning and teaching across the Technologies Learning Area. You will have the ability to lead improvement and change initiatives and this should be supported by the capacity to use data to inform decision making which supports your successful practice. Ideally, you will also have excellence as a teacher in at least one of the Technologies fields delivered at the school. An ability to lead the delivery of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses to a Certificate II level in this and other areas is desirable to the position. It is highly desirable that the successful applicant holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. You will establish and manage administrative and operational systems in order to ensure the effective operation of the learning area in accordance with legislative and industrial policy and guidelines.
Kelmscott SHS is a school of opportunity for students, offering Department of Education endorsed Specialist Programs in Agriculture and Music; Gifted and Talented (GAT) Secondary - Selective Entrance Program; and a range of Kelmscott Extension Programs (KEP) in Mathematics, Science, English, and Humanities and Social Sciences. Experience in learning for curiosity and deep learning would be an advantage.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacanc
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
