Appointment Pool

We are seeking to establish a pool for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year.
Student Support Officers are responsible for developing intervention strategies which provide a responsive and effective support system for students, including developing preventative programs. They will work as part of the Student Services Team to provide pastoral care support to students (both individually and in groups) in a range of settings, encouraging student attendance and achievement at school through providing an environment that nurtures emotional, physical, academic and mental health & wellbeing of all students within a cohort.
Student Support Officers will be responsible for engaging with outside agencies and develop links between students, family and the college and as such, knowledge of the youth sector and associated agencies is desirable. Suitable applicants will be able to work independently as well as collaboratively and be able to prioritise to ensure tasks are completed within set deadlines or as directed. Suitable applicants will ideally have the ability to communicate effectively (written and orally) with all stakeholders, and have exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to develop positive partnerships with schools, staff and wider community.

- Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing prioritises within timelines.
- Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment: and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
