Appointment Pool
Karratha Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of passionate Health and Physical Education (HPE) teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed-term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year.
The Health and Physical Education team at Karratha SHS aims to provide a variety of learning experiences that develop healthy, active, positive contributors to the Karratha community. Our programs are designed with a holistic vision where all students are given the opportunity to develop physical skills and abilities along with resilience, teamwork, and leadership within all learning area contexts.
Health and Physical Education is located within a shared facility with the City of Karratha’s cutting-edge Karratha Leisureplex. This shared use facility provides automatic access to the Recreation Centre, undercover multi-purpose courts, a full-size Australian Football League oval and soccer pitch. We also have access to the aquatic centre and other fitness areas.
Suitable applicants will have a focus on student achievement and high expectations. You will possess a thorough knowledge of the Physical and Health Education curriculum years 7-12 and be able to enthuse students in their learning. You will be highly motivated, innovative, and able to work collaboratively in a team environment designing and preparing relevant curriculum and assessment materials to meet our students at their point of need. You will possess excellent interpersonal skills, good classroom management skills and be relationship focussed. You will be able to provide engaging, relevant, and meaningful learning. You will be reflective in assessing the effectiveness of your teaching practice and able to cultivate a safe and accountable learning environment.
Our Health and Physical Education teachers will teach Lower School Health and Physical Education subjects across Years 7-10 as well as General and/or ATAR courses in Outdoor Education, Health Studies or Physical Education Studies.
The below additional qualifications are desirable but not essential. Applicants who hold these qualifications or are working towards them are encouraged to apply:
- Qualification to deliver Certificate II Sport and Recreation and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
- Roping, Mountain Biking, Camping, First Aid, Kayaking, Bush Walking, SUP Boarding, Bronze Medallion qualifications and a bus licence.
- Recent experience and a commitment to organise and manage camps, health curriculum, physical education curriculum, whole school and/or year group carnivals and events.
Karratha SHS has a focus on academic improvement for all students. Karratha SHS teachers are expected to actively take part in Classroom Observation practices, explicitly use an Instructional Model in the planning and delivery of lessons, embed literacy and numeracy into all areas of teaching, and utilise data analysis in their planning and case management of students.
Karratha SHS has a population of approximately 1200 students and is situated on a state of the art dynamic and revolutionary campus which was completed in 2013. Students at Karratha SHS come from all contributory primary schools as well as those from across Australia. Many families move to Karratha and surrounding townships such as Dampier, Point Samson, Roebourne and Wickham to work in the diverse mining, tourism and retail industries in the region.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
