Appointment Pool
Payroll Services is seeking to establish a pool of Payroll Officers for appointments to fixed term, full-time and fixed term, part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 year and up to the end of 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 year, up to the end of 2022.
As a Payroll Officer you will provide, generate and maintain employee personal information, pay distributions and process employee commencements, movements, variations and terminations in a timely and accurate manner. Suitable applicants will be required to process payroll activities in alignment with applicable industrial instruments, legislation and Departmental policies. This includes ensuring Industrial instruments, legislation policy and procedures are accurately applied in processing leave, salary and allowance payments, income tax and overpayments.
As a member of the Business and Customer Services (BCS) branch you will contribute to a work environment that is safe, fosters equity and diversity, enables the achievement of personal and BCS goals and facilitates accomplishment of designated roles and deliverables.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, industrial instruments and legislation.
- Experience with computerised human resource management information systems or equivalent and the ability to perform pay calculations, ensuring accuracy of complex payroll data.
- Sound verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deal with customers at all levels, to achieve positive outcomes.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Good organisational skills to meet deadlines with a proven ability to plan and prioritise tasks whilst maintaining attention to detail.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
