Appointment Pool
Business and Customer Services Division is seeking to establish a pool of Payroll Advisers for fixed term, full-time and fixed term, part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 year.
As a Payroll Advisor you will provide assistance and advice on compliance of payroll processes, payroll systems and industrial entitlements that relate to conditions of employment. The successful applicants will be required to ensure payroll business processes such as processing leave, salary and allowance payments, income tax and overpayments are delivered accurately and consistent with industrial instruments, legislation policy and procedures. This includes providing information and advice regarding payroll matters to internal and external clients and maintaining a focus on customer service delivery and continuous improvement of services.
The Payroll Adviser monitors payroll business processes and activities for relevant teams, including the creation and maintenance of employee records and processing transactions requiring manual calculations. The position will also support effective team performance through monitoring, coaching and providing appropriate support and guidance to enhance the skills, knowledge and abilities of payroll officers.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage a small team within a larger Payroll Services team, in a work environment of continuous improvement.
- Knowledge and application of policies, procedures, industrial instruments, and legislation in a payroll context.
- Knowledge and experience in the provision of comprehensive advice, audit compliance and services to internal and external customers on payroll services.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of computerised systems and tools such as Human Resource Management Information Systems and customer service management tools, with the ability to report on, review and evaluate system related data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills including the ability to engage with various customers about complex and/or confidential, sensitive matters including complaints.
- Initiative and well-developed organisational and time management skills.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
