Coastal Lakes College and Lakelands Primary School, independent Public Schools, are seeking a highly motivated, collaborative and organised school psychologist with a passion for supporting the whole child to achieve to their potential. They must have a friendly disposition and strong communications skills and be committed to forming positive working relationships with staff, students and parents. The role would be shared across both schools, 0.6FTE at Coastal Lakes College and 0.4FTE at Lakelands Primary School.
The successful applicant will collaborate closely with other staff within our respective Positive Student Support and Student Services teams. You will join a community of motivated educators committed to ensuring the wellbeing of its students. As the successful applicant, you will provide specialist psychological assessment, diagnosis, evidence-based intervention as well as consultation at the individual, group, whole college/school and system level. Services will be provided in the areas of adolescent mental health and wellbeing, behaviour support and intervention, learning and motivation, emergency and critical incident management, risk assessment, as well as professional learning for college and school staff, parents and caregivers.
You will be responsible for supporting staff and parents to put in place effective strategies that support the mental health and wellbeing of students. The successful applicant will ideally possess experience and knowledge in building staff capacity through professional learning, and the necessary skills to collaborate with teachers, sharing expert professional judgements and opinions. We are looking for an applicant who is adaptable, resilient and resourceful; is able to develop and maintain positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders and consult widely; and is able to work effectively as both part of a team and independently and proactively when required.
Coastal Lakes College located in Lakelands, a south western suburb of Perth in the City of Mandurah, opened in 2019 and will cater for students in Years 7, 8 and 9 in 2021. We will continue to grow by a cohort a year till 2024 when we will cater for students from Years 7 to 12. It is a new and innovative college which includes an Inclusive Education hub which caters for students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments (vision and hearing), challenging behaviours and/or autistic spectrum disorders.
The College has developed strong, innovative partnerships with its local primary schools and community organisations. A commitment to the College’s emphasis on pastoral care and co-curricular programs such as Zones of Regulation and You Can Do It will be essential as well as active promotion of the College’s vision, motto and values within the College and the wider community.
Lakelands Primary School located in the rapidly growing suburb of Lakelands, north of Mandurah. We cater for students in Kindergarten through to Year 6 and have an outstanding team of educators who share a commitment to work hand-in-hand with the community to provide a quality education for students. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes;
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention;
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills;
- Interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Departmental personnel and interagency partners across a variety of contexts;
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA); and
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching (minimum one year); or
- hold a Graduate Diploma in School Psychology (or equivalent), or
- have undertaken a minimum placement of 40 days in the school education sector as part of higher degree studies in psychology;
or
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and have worked a minimum of three years full-time (or equivalent part-time) as a school psychologist (or equivalent position).

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
