Advertised Vacancy Number: PR646783
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2021
Joondalup Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking to appoint a Principal to lead the school with passion and drive.
To be suitable for this role, the successful applicant will be a positive, energetic and enthusiastic leader and team member with dynamic leadership and interpersonal skills. Empathy, knowledge and an understanding of students with special needs and their families will be highly regarded. Applicants that possess a qualification in Special Education would be desirable. The successful applicant requires an understanding of teaching and learning adjustments for individual students, as well as the implementation of positive behaviour management strategies.
Joondalup ESC is a modern, innovative, Independent Public School specialising in the education of children with special needs. Joondalup ESC caters for children with global developmental delay, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and special education needs from Kindergarten to Year 6. The School provides an inclusive and caring environment that challenges students to develop academically, socially, emotionally and physically. Opened in 1993 for 16 students. Joondalup ESC has developed and remains responsive and proactive to the needs of the community. The school currently has over 100 enrolments with custom-built facilities designed by specialist teams. Purpose-built areas of the school include a STEM room, two sensory rooms and multiple playgrounds.
Joondalup ESC shares the campus with Joondalup Primary School. Both schools are dedicated to working collaboratively and have many exciting initiatives and established partnerships in place to foster progressive and authentic learning experiences for all students.
The school has a strong focus on inclusivity, with some students working alongside their mainstream peers in planned activities. Staff from both schools work closely together to provide maximum support. The classroom numbers are kept small, in favour of a high staff to student ratio, to ensure each child is given every opportunity to succeed.
Technology has become a natural part of classroom teaching and learning and all students have access to individualised iPads, which are used throughout the day as well as some students use iPads as their communication device.
The business plan for 2020-2022 has four focus areas: The Most Viable Curriculum; Collaboration; Shared Language; and Attendance.
In keeping with an ethos of being a warm, caring and friendly community, every child is treated as a valued individual. We incorporate the theme 'Learning for Life' into every day and believe this is relevant for both students and staff.
