John Curtin College Of The Arts is seeking a highly competent, dedicated and experienced Technical Support Officer to join their friendly team
The Technical support officer will display a flexible attitude, and will undertake varying roles as dictated by performance and rehearsal requirements in an educational setting. The Technical Theatre Officer will support educators and students in achieving learning goals within the scope of the theatre and other related venues. The position will assist with the maintenance of all equipment within the Theatre buildings and in support of staging musical productions, drama productions, music concerts, dance, school assemblies, meetings, and other related events. There is a requirement for rigging, focusing and board operation of both ION and Dot2 boards in both venues.
The position will assist with the storage of all staging and properties and will assist with the construction, installation and removal of all stage settings, lighting, sound and audio-visual equipment for theatre productions, as per the direction of Theatre Manager or Theatre Head Technician. The Technical Theatre Officer will work with in the budgets for equipment maintenance and replacement, consumables and theatre productions, set by the Theatre Manager.
Desirable skills to perform the role of Technical Support Officer - The Arts include:
- time management, planning and organisation
- lighting design
- a working under pressure knowledge of Q Lab
- the ability to operate sound and vision and with limited editing ability
- the ability to lift heavy things and assist with bump in and bump outs

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Knowledge, skills and experience in the operation of technical/industrial equipment within an Arts workshop/class or similar environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Western Australian Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 and its coverage in industrial environments.
- Good communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively with individuals at all levels.
- Effective time management, planning and organisational skills.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Hold or obtain a current Working with Children Check;
- Hold a Certificate III in Occupational Health and Safety or approved equivalent qualification or experience;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
