Joseph Banks Secondary College (SC) is seeking a passionate and committed Program Coordinator – Curriculum Leader - who will work closely with the Principal and members of the College Leadership Team to provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness. Your ability to work collaboratively with other leaders to achieve collective goals, is central to the role.
As Program Coordinator – Curriculum Leader, you will to provide high quality leadership to staff across learning areas, and possess the ability to provide direction and purpose to staff, build team capacity and cohesion and promote an environment of positive quality learning experiences for all staff and students.
As Program Coordinator – Curriculum Leader, outstanding knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and Senior Secondary courses, including Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) courses will be highly regarded. The successful applicant will apply their professional knowledge and understanding to promote effective and rigorous teaching, learning and assessment. This knowledge, combined with pedagogical skills, will enable the development of programs differentiated to cater for a diverse range of students and support the college’s philosophy of ensuring all students achieve success.
You will be responsible for developing the capabilities and capacity of staff in planning, actioning and reviewing of teaching programs, as well as developing strategies and learning programs to ensure improvements in learning outcomes for students are monitored. A thorough understanding of curriculum and pathways is essential. You will also require the capacity to lead and evaluate assessment and moderation activities that ensure consistent and comparable judgements of student learning are made and ensure all members of the team meet college and SCSA requirements.
As the successful applicant you will be an exemplary classroom practitioner who can; model innovative, future-focused thinking; lead the implementation of excellence in teaching and learning and possess an ability to build capacity and capabilities of staff using a variety of teacher development and coaching methods. The successful applicant will undertake reflective performance development conversations, using key standards and be able to reflect and provide feedback to staff regarding effectiveness of teaching practice.
As a leader and exceptional classroom practitioner you will have the ability to lead improvement and change initiatives and continually reflect on teaching and learning. It is desirable for applicants to have the ability to use data analysis to inform your planning and assessment, and utilise data to drive change and improve students’ academic performance. You will lead learning opportunities for staff to ensure consistently high levels of curriculum delivery is occurring that promotes rigour and cognitive challenge for students.
Your leadership will be supported by the capacity to build positive relationships with staff, the successful applicant must have highly efficient communication skills. You will be able to collaborate very effectively with others to sustain a professional team culture whereby staff feel supported to share effective teaching and learning practices. These priorities will be supported and developed by a Program Coordinator who is able to exhibit: instructional leadership; an ability to build and sustain quality teaching; and an ability to develop a culture of orderliness and high expectations.
Joseph Banks SC, an Independent Public School, is located in the suburb of Banksia Grove, approximately 27 km from the Perth CBD. We currently accept students from Years 7-12. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
