Broome Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Students At Educational Risk teacher join our friendly team. The successful candidate will work with a small class of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) girls within the Broome Girls Academy (BGA) team to plan, deliver and assess an engaging teaching and learning program that will ensure successful outcomes for these students.
BGA is a well-established and highly valued program, developed through Role Models and Leaders Australia that supports ATSI girls at Broome SHS to achieve and participate in all aspects of their schooling to the best of their ability. The BGA class is a sub-set of the program that aims to support girls in Year 7 and Year 8 who initially need a single teacher classroom to settle into secondary schooling and then facilitates their transition to mainstream schooling when ready.
The development of positive, respectful relationships between staff, students and families is a high priority at Broome SHS. The successful applicant will be student and relationship focused, enthusiastic, innovative and motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with staff from BGA and the entire school community. They will be strong communicators with excellent interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will be self-reflective and will constantly assess the effectiveness of teaching practice. They will embrace the integration of Information and Communications Technology to create an environment conducive to learning as well as provide purposeful and relevant learning experiences that cater for different student learning needs. Furthermore, the applicants will embrace cross cultural relationships and work collaboratively with ATSI students, families and the wider community in order to deliver meaningful and engaging student experiences within and outside the classroom.

Broome is a vibrant and attractive coastal town in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. As a tourist town, Broome is well resourced regarding facilities and services. Applicants offered a position in 2020 will be eligible for Government Regional Officer’s Housing (GROH) housing and assistance with the movement of furniture and vehicle to Broome.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
