Governor Stirling Senior High School (GSSHS) is seeking to establish a pool of dedicated and strategic Deputy Principals who are committed to achieving exceptional educational outcomes for all students. This pool will be used to fill any permanent or fixed term, full-time or part-time positions that may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements up to the end of Term 4, 2021.
The Deputy Principal will work closely with the Principal, School Executive team and other members of the school to provide educational leadership in the school and the school community in developing and promoting the school values, ethos and priorities, and encouraging school staff and others in the school community to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals.
Applicants will have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills that will enable you to effectively develop and maintain strong relationships with staff, students and the school community.
A key aspect of the role is ensuring a positive school culture, highly effective teaching and learning, and a culture of high expectations for all students.
The Deputy Principal also assists the Principal to facilitate workforce effectiveness, leading school staff in planning, and leading school improvement that is directed at improving outcomes for all students. This includes the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of whole school programs and processes, and plan and implement strategic initiatives. The ability to work with students and parents/carers from a range of cultural backgrounds is highly desirable.
Governor Stirling SHS caters for students of varying abilities, and offers the Department of Education Gifted and Talented Education Program, a range of academic and Vocational Education and Training programs, and Approved Specialist Programs in Engineering, Arts Media and AFL Football. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
