This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 4, 2020.
Mount Lawley Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Technical Support Officer to join their team.
In this role the Technical Support Officer will be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting and ongoing maintenance of information systems and information technology (IT) equipment in accordance with the school’s needs and Department of Education policies and guidelines. The successful applicant will possess effective communication skills and a thorough understanding of major operating systems and mobile devices with their associated software.
Ideally, the desired applicant will have the ability to work as part of a team, liaise with other Department of Education personnel and to communicate with external service providers. We are looking for an applicant who is a diligent professional, able to strategise and prioritise to ensure the timely completion of major IT projects, while continually providing high quality support to students, as well as a large group of employees with varying levels of IT knowledge.
The successful applicant will assist in the management of student and school data and will develop solutions to improve data management systems. The successful applicant will assist in maintaining equipment and technologies throughout the school including developing solutions to identified problems. The successful applicant will assist teachers with maintaining technical equipment and resources in line with occupational, safety and health practices and maintain accurate records of Information Technology assets and resources.
Founded in 1955, Mount Lawley SHS is located within a residential suburb 5 kilometres north of the Perth CBD. It comprises three sub-schools; Years 7 & 8, Years 9 & 10 and Years 11 & 12. It hosts one of two Gifted and Talented Languages programs in the state, an approved Specialist Visual and Performing Arts program, a Jazz Music program and the innovative Aboriginal Excellence Program. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with staff at all levels.
- Conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to develop innovative solutions to information technology problems.
- Ability to install and maintain network systems incorporating the Internet and Electronic Mail.
- Organisational skills to develop effective administrative practices and the initiative to work with minimum supervision.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
