This is a permanent full-time position commencing October 2020
The Finance Services branch are seeking to appoint a highly dedicated and motivated individual to the role of General Ledger Assistant Accountant.
The successful applicant will be required to prepare financial information and perform activities relating to end of financial periods including transfer of the Department’s Payroll payments and deduction files to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. You will also ensure that transactions are processed in accordance with the Financial Management Act 2006, Regulations, Treasurer’s Instructions and Department policy while assisting with managing, monitoring, and reconciling accounts, ledgers and transactions including processing General Ledger journals as required.
The Finance Services Branch provides accounts payable, accounts receivable, maintenance of the Department’s asset registers, credit card management, lease administration, debt recovery, general ledger and taxation services.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Knowledge and understanding of the Financial Management Act 2006, Regulations and Treasurer’s Instructions and experience with computerised financial management systems.
- Experience in working with computerised payroll and financial systems including knowledge of accounting controls, spreadsheets and databases.
- Skills and experience in the use of computer software packages, including financial application spreadsheets and word processing.
- Sound research and problem solving skills.
- Initiative and sound organisational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and identify priorities.
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment and to liaise with individuals at all levels
