This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 4, 2020.
Tom Price Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and innovative Science Teacher, preferably aligned with Earth Sciences/Chemistry and Physics, who is passionate about building the capacity of students through Project Based learning to achieve the best possible educational outcomes for students.
The successful applicant should have a genuine care and consideration for students, highly effective teaching practices and a willingness to seek constant improvement in their own practice. In addition, you will have Suzy Urbaniak from the CoRE Learning Foundation as a mentor. Suzy Urbaniak is the 2016 Prime Ministers Secondary Science Teacher of the Year and the Western Australian 2020, Local Hero recipient in the Australian of the Year Awards. You will be self-motivated, prepared to enthusiastically embrace new opportunities and work proactively towards achieving successful outcomes for students.
Tom Price SHS is an Independent Public School (IPS) located in Pilbara region 80kms from the Karijini National Park. The school offers the Pilbara CoRE program (Centre of Resource Excellence) - a secondary school specialist STEM course which focuses on the Pilbara's leading role in the mining and resources industry and has commenced the Fogarty EDvance school improvement program in 2019.
Tom Price SHS supports the education programs of - ATAR, VET, social and sporting. Our academic program is reinforced by the school's strong partnership with the University of WA (ASPIRE) which has successfully supported and enabled our Year 12 Tertiary bound students to be accepted into university. Our VET program, supported by local businesses and industry, enables students to participate in meaningful and authentic learning experiences that provide students with the opportunity to achieve Certificate II (or above) level nationally accredited vocational qualifications. In partnership with the Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation, and hosted by the Follow the Dream program, our Indigenous students are supported to achieve success at Tom Price SHS.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:

Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
