Appointment Pool
Baldivis South Primary School (planning name) are seeking to establish a pool for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year.
The foundation staff of Baldivis South PS (planning name) will need to focus on the development of the whole child. Our aim, in partnership with families, is to create unique, lifelong learners who are resilient and confident to tackle challenges of an academic and personal nature. All school staff will support each individual child to thrive socially, emotionally and academically. Our common goal is to have the students at the centre of everything we do and every decision we make. We will provide a unified approach to student well-being, where all staff will take shared responsibility to ensure that our students are well cared for and valued. All staff will have a role in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Baldivis South PS (planning name) will have an Education Support Program commencing in 2022.

You will possess a calm, positive and professional manner and have the ability to work in partnership with colleagues across a range of settings from K – 6, both within mainstream and the Education Support Centre and with a range of students.
Under teacher direction, Education Assistants – Special Needs will assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs. Assisting in the implementation of specialised educational programs such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy programs, operation of computers and digital technologies, and individual student or small group programs or demonstrations, is a must.
In a strong collaborative environment, you will be making curriculum adjustments and providing feedback on a variety of programs. Suitable applicants will have well developed behaviour management skills, particularly being able to deal with challenging / complex behaviour. Knowledge and implementation of social skills programs and Zones of Regulation would be considered highly desirable. Experience with students with mental health disorders, Autism and Global Development Delay would be advantageous.
This role will require you to possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills which will be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos and priorities across the school community. You will build positive relationships with the students and be passionate about creating positive futures for students. You will be performance driven and use evidence based decision-making skills. This role requires you to work as part of a dedicated team and provides you with the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to our new school community.
Baldivis South PS (Planning Name) is located in the growing suburb of Baldivis, surrounded by rapidly developing housing estates with many young families. It is predicted that the school will open, in 2021, with approximately 130 students from Kindergarten to Year 6, the majority being in early childhood. The school will consist of an administration block, a library resource centre which contains the staff room, an early childhood block, three learning blocks, one of which has an Art/Science room, a covered assembly area, canteen and a music room. There will also be a multi-purpose playing court, junior football oval and cricket practise nets which will provide a pleasant and inviting environment. Our teaching and learning environments will reflect a positive and innovative approach to maximising learning opportunities for students.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented
- Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists
- Ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs
- Knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents
- Ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
