Comet Bay College is seeking a two (2) highly motivated, innovative and proactive individuals to join the Student Support team as Student Support Teachers allocated to a year cohort.
We currently have the following positions available:
- Two (2) - permanent full-time position/s
All positions will commence Term 1, 2021.
The successful applicants would follow their allocated cohort through to Year 12, at which time they may have the opportunity to be reallocated to another Year 7 cohort. If in the future the structure of Student Support changes or the numbers decrease, then the successful applicants may be required to return to the classroom as required by the College.
This role will see you working collaboratively and in close partnership with other members of the Student Support team. The team is led by a Dean of Student Support, with an Associate Dean attached to each year group, Student Support Clerical Staff, School Nurse, two Chaplains, an Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer and two Psychologists.
As Student Support Teachers, the successful applicants will provide ongoing pastoral support and leadership for a year cohort, using a proactive approach that will further improve student behaviour, attendance and enhance the ongoing development of a positive ethos and culture across the cohort. This leadership will include Students at Educational Risk, including mental health, which is tracked and supported from within the College and outside agency support identified and allocated at point of need.
Skills which are integral to performing this role successfully would include, but are not limited to:
- Exceptional Classroom Management Strategies/behaviour management skills;
- Capacity to de-escalate conflict with distressed students, staff and parents;
- Solutions focussed;
- High level knowledge of school policy and process;
- A commitment to their ongoing professional growth;
- Recognition of cases that will require consultation with school psychologist, nurse, Dean and Associate Principals;
- High level communication and record keeping skills;
- High level time management skills;
- Effectively prioritises tasks/workload; and
- Effective self-care/stress management practices.
Comet Bay College has a genuine and proven commitment to support the professional growth of our teachers. Comet Bay College is a Gifted and Talented school and also has extension pathways in English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities and Social Sciences years 7-10.
The College also has a successful and highly competitive Australian Football Specialist Program. The Visual and Performing Arts also offer extension classes in Drama, Dance and Art to selected students in Years 7 – 10. Comet Bay College is a modern innovative Independent Public School that caters for Year 7-12 students and is located one kilometre from the coast in the vibrant community of Secret Harbour. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
